Projects

I am a historian of modern art, particularly in France.

My first major research project was on the French painter Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947). The monograph of this project, Pierre Bonnard Beyond Vision, has recently come out with Yale University Press.

I am currently beginning a new project that rethinks French art and its discourses from the end of the Second World War to the late 1960s. This begins with a study of Germaine Richier (1902-1959). I am also working on smaller projects relating to the processes of looking at art, and on artists' writings.

On the left is not a research agenda, but a tiny diary that belonged to Bonnard from 1906.
